Zimbabwe: submission to FATF on proposed restrictive legislative reform measures

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have made this submission to the FATF on the proposed restrictive legislative reform measures in the country that are being justified using the FATF recommendations. The Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill, 2021 was gazetted on 5 November 2021 and is due to be presented in parliament in February 2022.

If passed into law, the amendments proposed in the Bill will have far-reaching implications for the human rights, humanitarian and development sectors, and will result in closing civic space in Zimbabwe. (This joint communication from four UN Special Rapporteurs highlights how the Bill fails to comply with international human rights law standards.)

ZLHR have also made this follow-on submission to the FATF (24th February 2022).
