Bangkok, 5 November —Lia van Broekhoven and Sangeeta Goswami of Human Security Collective, co-chair of the Global NPO Coalition on FATF, participated as lead experts, alongside Stephen Reimer, in a regional workshop where ASEAN government AML/CFT and NPO regulators discussed the updated FATF Recommendation 8.

The workshop will result in a practical handbook being developed by the EU project ESIWA+ and endorsed by ASEAN Member States, which will be tailored to support them in implementing Recommendation 8 in line with the requirements of the revised Standard. The two-day workshop included interactive discussions with participants on the challenges and best practice of conducting risk assessments of the sector and of putting in place a risk-based oversight system. There was also discussion on the modalities of multi-stakeholder engagement and the consequences of overregulation that ultimately impact legitimate NPO activity.
