Indonesia: Building NPO Resilience Amid Regulatory Challenges
In May, Coalition members PINGO (Indonesia) and Community World Service Asia (CWSA) (Pakistan) co-hosted a two-day workshop in Jakarta focused on strengthening Indonesian NPOs’ capacity to navigate the regulatory impacts of FATF standards, particularly Recommendation 8. The event brought together civil society representatives to explore practical strategies for managing compliance challenges following Indonesia’s recent Mutual Evaluation Report.
Participants discussed the unintended consequences of counter-terrorism financing measures on civil society, including increased administrative burdens and restricted financial access. They called for proportional, risk-based regulations, stronger engagement between civil society, regulators, and financial institutions, and the establishment of a regional NPO coalition within the Asia-Pacific Group. A follow-up meeting is planned to advance this important advocacy and capacity-building work.
